Here at Cornwall Arenas we are able to help you through all stages of your Horse Arena (Sand School) construction. From initial planning applications through to drainage, fencing, surface laying and the ongoing maintenance of your Horse Arena (Sand School).
How will my Horse Arena (Sand School) be Constructed?
The general rule behind the good construction of all Horse Arenas (Sand Schools) is the same, regardless of budget. A good foundation and drainage layer is essential to producing a good Horse Arena (Sand School). This will be made up of hardcore and then clean drainage stone, with the chosen surfaces laid on top of these two layers.
Which is the right Horse Arena (Sand School) Surface for me?
Choosing the right surface for a Horse Arena (Sand School) can seem confusing. Cornwall Arenas can give professional advice on which surface will work best, depending on requirements and budget.
All Horse Arenas (Sand Schools) require a layer of sand. Cornwall Arenas use either Silica Sand or Padstow Sand. Silica Sand (from Somerset or Essex) is the more expensive option and is the best quality sand available. Or locally we use Padstow Sand which still creates a good riding surface requires more maintenance and irrigation.
As well as the sand, Horse Arenas (Sand Schools) require an additional surface layer to ensure optimum riding conditions and provide good insulation.
A popular choice of surfaces is Rubber Chips and Shredded Rubber. Both of these are the more economical choice and sit on top of the sand. The Rubber Chips ensure a cushioned ride and because they reduce surface water the risk of freezing is minimal. The Rubber Shred is slightly more expensive but there is less kick back from the horses which helps reduce the level / frequency of maintenance required.
For an optimum performing Horse Arena (Sand School) then synthetic / wax coated surfaces can be used. These are mixed with the top 2 inches of Sand and provide a consistent riding surface which needs an absolute minimum level of maintenance.
